KUKA unveils ‘Kaitian KAI’ platform at the China International Industry Fair

From 12 to 16 October the 26th China International Industry Fair (CIIF) was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai. Global automation provider KUKA exhibited under the theme “AI, embodied”, launching its “Kaitian KAI” (KUKA Advanced Intelligence) platform on 12 October alongside several new products and solutions.

The backdrop is policy. The 15th Five-Year Plan calls for an advanced-manufacturing-led modern industrial system that is intelligent, green and integrated. Since the start of 2026, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities have rolled out support policies naming embodied intelligence and biomanufacturing as priority directions.

Behind the policy is a real manufacturing dilemma. China’s industrial-robot scale keeps expanding, yet the intelligent upgrade still faces three gaps. Data exists but decision and execution stay split. Equipment exists but coordination and flexibility fall short. AI exists but entering the production line is hard, with hallucination and uncertainty the true barrier between model and factory floor.

KUKA’s answer is KAI, short for KUKA Advanced Intelligence. It is not an AI feature bolted onto one device. It weaves intelligence into every product and every production line.

For European manufacturers, a German engineering name running a China-aligned AI platform signals where industrial automation is heading: local deployment speed married to global brand credibility.
