Shenmou’s arm-equipped quadruped ‘Fumo’ wins a State Grid power-tunnel contract

Shenmou earlier became the first humanoid-robot firm to win a State Grid live-line operation project with its humanoid “Fuan”, earning two power embodied-intelligence awards. Now its arm-equipped quadruped “Fumo” has won State Grid’s tender for a quadruped robot built for complex environments.

Energy, power and transport are high-value sectors where complex environments demand a great deal from embodied-intelligence hardware. Power cable tunnels are the arteries of urban distribution, yet more than 60 per cent of older tunnels still run unpowered, off-network and without fixed online monitoring, with narrow spaces, poor ventilation, dampness and uneven surfaces.

Manual inspection in those tunnels forces workers to carry lighting, temperature, gas-detection and logging gear, exposing them to hypoxia, poisoning, slips, electric shock and hard evacuations. Today’s quadruped inspection is mostly limited to visual gauge reading. It cannot use tools, traverse narrow or flooded sections, or work off-grid, which caps what it can actually deliver.

Shenmou’s edge rests on four strengths: integrated quadruped body with robotic arm and dexterous hand, stable motion across narrow, complex and flooded terrain, perception and localisation in unpowered, off-network and low-light tunnels through multi-source fusion, and application to distribution-grid scenarios.

This is embodied intelligence moving from showcase to high-value infrastructure, where a single avoided outage pays for the robot many times over.
