Lei Jun-backed Surge Robotics wins STAR Market IPO acceptance for single-port surgical robot

Surge Robotics, one of domestic surgical robotics’ so-called four small dragons, has won acceptance for a STAR Market listing, its second attempt after a 2023 CITIC tutoring round was abandoned. It restarted the process in November 2025, filed in December and completed tutoring in June 2026. The firm is using the STAR fifth standard, which requires a market value above RMB 4 billion with no revenue or profit threshold.

The IPO seeks RMB 700 million: RMB 280 million for product upgrades across its 600 and 700 single-port series, RMB 210 million for a global marketing network and RMB 210 million for working capital. Before the listing the company closed ten funding rounds with SDIC, Lei Jun’s Shunwei Capital, Medtronic, Zhengxin, Hefei, the Shanghai biomedicine fund and Deno Capital.

Founder Xu Kai is a Shanghai Jiao Tong University professor, a Tsinghua master and Columbia doctoral graduate with more than 20 years in surgical robotics. The firm has filed 732 patents with 471 granted. Its SR-ENS-600 single-port system uses super-elastic nitinol snake instruments and is the first China-approved and second globally approved single-port surgical robot, the first Chinese robot with full-population EU CE certification, and the only one with a CE mark for paediatric use.

The SR-ENS-600 won China’s NMPA approval in June 2023 and EU CE in August 2025; the upgraded SR-ENS-660 was approved in March 2026. The robot has completed more than 3,500 surgeries across 19 top Chinese tertiary hospitals. Internationally, it holds registrations in the EU, Hong Kong and Malaysia, landed a direct sale to a Spanish public hospital at EUR 2.42 million in the first half of 2026, and won pre-qualification from France’s largest public hospital buyer.

Revenue rose from about RMB 449,000 in 2023 to RMB 18.63 million in 2024 and RMB 81.31 million in 2025, while net losses narrowed from RMB 191 million to RMB 195 million and RMB 132 million.
