On 20 August, Harmony IntelliDrive launched its first boxy hardcore SUV, the Xiangjie G9, with prices from 429,800 to 549,800 yuan. Within one hour it took 3,100 pre-orders. Richard Yu called it able to replace a holiday rental and a camper van.

The G9 comes in Max+, Ultra, and Ultra+ trims, in five- or six-seat layouts, with battery-electric or range-extender power. The Max+ five-seat starts at 429,800 yuan with Huawei dual-motor four-wheel drive, an adaptive differential lock, dual-chamber air suspension, and a 56 kWh pack for 1,271 km CLTC combined range. The Ultra adds an 800V disconnect stabiliser and smart doors; the Ultra+ tops out with satellite communication and million-pixel projector headlights. Options include a roof tent, tailgate kitchen, instant water heater, and shower.

Three first-in-class off-road technologies
The chassis is the headline. The G9 debuts Huawei’s all-terrain Tuling platform with standard dual-chamber air suspension and plus-or-minus 12-degree rear-wheel steering for a 5.2-metre turning circle. It adds an intelligent all-terrain system that reads the ground and a 800V fully active disconnect stabiliser that firms on road and releases travel off it. The Huawei Zhiqing adaptive differential-lock drive senses mud, rock, and off-cambers and locks in as fast as 0.2 seconds.
All versions use Huawei’s 800V ‘Whale’ battery platform. The electric model carries a 120 kWh pack for 728 km CLTC; the range-extender takes up to a 75 kWh pack for 1,366 km combined. Safety kit includes 11 airbags and a roof rated to 16.5 tonnes.

L3 architecture and a wider line
Yu again declared ‘far ahead’ on communications: dual-network roaming with zero-latency switching, satellite calling, and car-to-car push-to-talk. On driving, the G9 uses an L3-class architecture with an 896-line dual-path lidar and 38 sensors; Yu said users would get L3 ‘in a few months’. Alongside it, the Zhijie RX coupe-SUV opened pre-orders at 299,800 and 359,800 yuan in two versions, one with an L3 architecture, while the Wenjie M6 added trims at 239,800 and 259,800 yuan. A Xiangjie V8 MPV will appear at the Chengdu auto show.
By 16 August, Harmony IntelliDrive’s cumulative deliveries passed 1.5 million units, the fastest among new-force brands. BAIC spent 2 billion yuan upgrading the Xiangjie plant to meet Yu’s standards. The G9 fills Harmony’s hardcore-SUV gap and pairs with the Wenjie M9 as a two-flaghip SUV range.
