A single post on X on 4 November claimed the Anthropic listing had been cancelled. It had not been. The prospectus is still sitting in the SEC’s public archive, and the roadshow is still pencilled in for the week of 9 November.
The correction arrived within hours. The repricing did not go away with it.

What the filing record actually shows
Anthropic has eight documents lodged with the SEC. A confidential draft on 1 June, five amendments between July and October, a public S-1 on 26 October, and an S-1/A on 2 November. The company has also stood up a subdomain carrying the IPO name.
None of that reads like a withdrawal. What changed is the number at the bottom.
From USD 2 trillion to USD 1.45 trillion
Anthropic’s private marks once reached USD 2 trillion. Banks arranging the listing have now been forced to guide investors towards USD 1.4 trillion to USD 1.5 trillion. Roughly USD 500 billion of paper valuation has gone.
The 2 November filing explains why. Third quarter revenue came in at USD 16.96 billion. Nine month revenue grew 1,206 per cent year on year, but the sequential step from the second quarter was 47 per cent, against 144 per cent in the quarter before.
Part of that deceleration is self-inflicted discounting. Anthropic handed out roughly USD 600 million of price cuts and discounts in the third quarter to hold share. Add it back and growth recovers to about 52 per cent. The curve still flattens.
Profit is the sharper turn. Anthropic posted a USD 974 million profit in the second quarter and a GAAP operating loss in the third.
Three departures in eight days
Between 23 and 30 October, three people central to Claude Code left the company. Anthony Morris, who built the desktop product, departed on 23 October. Thariq Shihipar followed on 24 October. Cat Wu, who ran Claude Code and Cowork alongside Boris Cherny, left on 30 October.
The S-1 states plainly that products of this kind are decisive to commercialisation. Claude Code is the machine that converts enterprise accounts into recurring revenue. Losing its three most senior owners between the filing and the roadshow is the kind of detail institutional buyers price immediately.
The bill behind the multiple
Anthropic is not being repriced because the business stopped growing. It is being repriced because the cost of staying in the race is now visible in the accounts at the same moment growth normalises.
Compute commitments of that size turn a software margin story into a capital intensity story. Investors who assumed a 2027 exit at private market multiples are being asked to underwrite depreciation instead.
The technology is not in question. The financing structure is.
