The AI Dove of East Asia

Make love(AI), not war. 🕊️

Did you know that in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, the pronunciation of the word for “love” is “ai”? It is a poetic coincidence that this shared linguistic heritage perfectly mirrors the acronym for Artificial Intelligence. Perhaps this is a sign that AI could be the very force that unites the region.

We are already seeing this profound impact. Fuelled by the ongoing AI boom, East Asia’s financial landscape is shifting rapidly. 📈

In late April, Taiwan’s stock market officially overtook Canada’s in total market capitalisation, while Korea surpassed the UK during the same period. Similarly, Hong Kong and mainland China’s three major exchanges are seeing significant benefits from the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and robotics. Add to this Japan, which has always been an enduring cornerstone of the global robotics industry.

Interestingly, if you map out and connect these thriving East Asian financial centres, an inspiring shape emerges: the profile of a dove. I call it the “AI Dove.” 🕊️

The vast majority of the region’s AI and robotics powerhouses fall squarely within the outline of this dove, most notably the dynamic tech hubs of the Robot Belt along China’s southeastern coast.

This raises a fascinating question: Could the shared pursuit of global AI leadership encourage East Asian nations to set aside long-standing geopolitical frictions in favour of strategic co-operation? Will this AI Dove—driven by the “ai” (love) of innovation—usher in an era of long-lasting peace and technological prosperity in the region?

I am highly confident that it will.

What are your thoughts on the “AI Dove” and the future of East Asian tech co-operation? Do you see AI acting as a unifying force? I would love to hear your perspectives—let’s discuss in the comments below! 👇
