FAW Jiefang’s J6E large-customer custom edition has begun rolling off the line and into delivery. The strategic model, already well regarded in express-delivery fleets, was tailored to the pain points of leading logistics operators, and its headline feature is a Level 2-plus trunk combined assisted-driving system fromZhitu Technology.

Zhitu, founded by FAW Jiefang in 2019, is a national specialist SME. Its full-stack “Zhitu Yingteng” system spans AI algorithm, hardware and operating-system platforms, all automotive-grade. It has built China’s first highway assisted-driving operations platform, with over 100 million kilometres of commercial operation, more than 100,000 ADAS units supplied per year and a 12 per cent heavy-truck market share.
Efficiency and safety on the trunk
The system supports navigation-assisted driving across the full highway segment from toll booth to toll booth. On 800 to 1,500 km trunk routes it enables “two drivers to one”, cutting annual labour cost about 50 per cent. Usable mileage reaches 90 per cent, over 70 per cent of drivers report far less fatigue, and on-time rate on pilot lines rose to 98 per cent. A layered cruise and control algorithm delivers about 5 per cent overall energy saving.

Heavy trucks differ from passenger cars: flexible tractor-trailer connection, wildly shifting load and centre of gravity, crosswind and ramp disturbance. Zhitu built a high-fidelity simulation model and adaptive identification to hold lateral control error under 0.2 m at full load. Its perception uses lidar, high-precision radar and camera in a 360-degree field, detecting 300 m forward and 150 m rear, with redundant backup for 99 per cent-plus extreme conditions including rain, fog and backlight.

From validation to scaled delivery
Deeply customised for express delivery, the system holds up across sharp ramps, adjacent-lane overtaking, long tunnel loss of satellite positioning, strong crosswind and night worksites. The J6E custom edition has won orders from major logistics firms including Aneng. The delivery marks commercial-vehicle intelligent driving moving from technical validation to scaled application, as L2 and L2-plus products enter a volume surge and competition shifts from concept to delivery capability.
Zhitu is advancing a “dual-scenario” strategy: accelerating combined assisted-driving model delivery on highways while deepening L4 unmanned solutions in low-speed scenes, accumulating first-mover advantage in commercial-vehicle autonomy.
