China’s first thousand-qubit computing platform launches in Shenzhen

Shenzhen has launched what its backers call China’s first thousand-qubit-scale quantum computing power platform, a step they say moves the country’s quantum effort from technical validation toward something industry can actually use.

On 3 August, the Greater Bay Area, Guangdong, Quantum Science Center, the National Supercomputing Center in Shenzhen, and Entropec, Shenzhen, Technology unveiled the Entropec platform at the 5th CCF Quantum Computing Conference. Its thousand-qubit scale is described as an industry first.

Global quantum supply is severely short, and commercial, large-scale, deployable quantum power is almost blank. Entropec enters through tensor-network technology: it runs on the company’s 2D PEPS algorithm, needs no quantum hardware, and on a supercomputing cluster stably outputs thousand-qubit simulation and circuit-computing power, collapsing exponential complexity to polynomial scale through tensor contraction and renormalisation.

Once neutral-atom and superconducting hardware matures, it plugs in seamlessly, forming a fused quantum-supercomputing-AI power system. The simulate first, grid the hardware, fuse and coordinate route pulls the industrialisation starting line forward, solving the field’s chicken-and-egg problem of needing compute before scenarios and industry.

The thousand-qubit scale is what industry urgently needs. In drugs and advanced materials, many key problems require thousand-qubit simulation, a threshold classical computing cannot reach and current hardware has not hit. It enables trillion-scale micro-system simulation, protein-structure resolution, and drug screening.

Entropec will also build a quantum programming ecosystem and algorithm community, so developers, the platform, and users co-build applications. Each solved problem adds a layer of capability; each new application pushes quantum power one step deeper into industry.
