Xiaomi’s next humanoid surfaces: 1.7 metres tall, 66 kg, 66 degrees of freedom

Xiaomi’s next-generation humanoid robot has had its specifications leaked. According to a 19 August report by the National Business Daily, carried via the outlet Farsight, the robot stands about 1.70 metres tall, weighs 66 kg, and carries 66 degrees of freedom, with half of them concentrated in its hands.

Xiaomi plans to show the next-generation humanoid publicly for the first time at the 2026 World Robotics Conference, which opened on 19 August. After its China debut it will travel to Europe for display.

Earlier, Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun said the company’s robots had completed a four-month “internship” on an automotive production line with solid results. On the self-tapping nut assembly station, two-sided operation success rose from 90.2 per cent to 98 per cent. Success on centre-console cover fitting and carton folding both reached 90 per cent. It also achieved long-duration operation on flexible parts for the first time.

Official materials show Xiaomi’s humanoid robot programme was set up internally in 2020. It first launched the CyberDog quadruped to build technical foundations for humanoids. In August 2022 it released its first full-size humanoid, CyberOne, focused on bipedal walking and emotion perception as a technology demonstrator, not a mass-produced product.

In recent years the humanoid team has kept iterating hardware and control algorithms, upgrading dexterous hands and motion balance, and exploring bionic dexterous hands and multi-robot collaboration.

Lu Weibing, Xiaomi partner, president and head of the phone business, said Xiaomi will not build robots as a standalone business, but fold them into its “human-car-home” ecosystem, collaborating across smart factories, smart mobility and the home.
