An Xi’an Jiao Tong Spin-out Built a Wheeled Humanoid and Closed a Tens-of-Millions Raise

On 29 September, full-stack embodied-AI firm LanChong Embodied closed a tens-of-millions-yuan angel round led by Xi’an Hi-Tech Venture Capital, to fund production lines, product R&D, scenario expansion and team growth.

Founded in March 2025 with support from Xi’an Jiaotong University through technology transfer, its core team blends XJTU masters and PhDs with veteran robot engineers. Founder and chief executive Cong Yao is a serial entrepreneur with over ten years in robotics.

Four self-developed platforms

LanChong covers the whole chain of body, teleoperation, model and cloud platform. The “Spring Cocoon” robot architecture reuses about 70 per cent of underlying technology across mechanical, electronic, algorithmic and embedded dimensions, with six core technologies including the Tiger Arm chassis and Mantis control. The “Quantum” teleop platform compresses latency to 10 milliseconds with MR interaction and an atomic skill library, supporting 5G and broadband global links. The “Wormhole” model platform carries the BW-Brain base model on real, imitation and synthetic data. The “Honeycomb” cloud connects body, teleop and model for collect-train-push, with data trading and cloud-work commercial functions.

A modular humanoid at RMB 9,800

On 14 September LanChong released the modular humanoid Mantis Standard “Xiaobai” from RMB 9,800, positioned as an out-of-box embodied-AI development platform. Unlike bipedal show routines, the Mantis line chooses wheels and focuses on upper-limb work, for faster commercialisation, lower cost and steadier volume.

Xiaobai stands 1.4 metres with 22 degrees of freedom, 7 per arm, 7-kilogram arm load, plus or minus 1-millimetre repeatability, a 3-degree-of-freedom omnidirectional base, 550-millimetre waist lift and 3-hour battery. It runs the self-developed Quantum teleop and BW-Brain based on VLA plus DRL plus WAM, turning skills into reusable agents.

Three versions span the load and scenario gradient: Standard for research and light industry, Pro with 10-kilogram arm load at 1.7 metres for commercial service, and Ultra in development with 15-kilogram arm load for high-end industry.

Teleop first, data as byproduct

LanChong breaks through with “teleop commercialisation plus data byproduct”: let teleoperated robots earn in real scenarios first, while data accrues naturally, forming a positive loop of teleop revenue, data accumulation, model iteration and autonomy. On scenario, it follows a “from business to home, dual-end linkage” path, validating engineering and supply-chain in B-end scenarios before opening the home market.

LanChong has signed a hundreds-of-units annual supply deal with a leading self-service coffee-machine firm, sold robots to Xidian, XJTU and China University of Mining for data collection, and worked with Shaanxi Tourism Group, Proton Auto and Xingxun Intelligent on industrial and commercial scenarios.
